Spring and Fall Workshops

Join APWA-MN April 7, 2026 for the 2026 Spring Workshop and earn the Public Fleet Management Certificate. This one-day workshop is for new and experienced fleet managers and those aspiring to become fleet managers. The program will provide an overview of the many skills and areas of knowledge fleet managers need to be successful. Additional details are below.

This Public Fleet Management Certificate workshop provides an overview of the many skills and areas of knowledge fleet managers need to be successful, including:

  • Organization structures
  • Communication
  • Procurement
  • Purchasing
  • Finance
  • Fleet operations

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the role of a fleet manager 
  • Establish organizational goals, missions, and credibility
  • Develop skills needed to interact with fleet customers
  • Comprehend HR policies and roles
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of finance and technology issues
  • Prepare for global issues and their impact on fleet management
  • Discover industry best practices
  • Explain common industry best practices

  • TIME: 7:15 am: Registration and Breakfast  |  8:00 am - 3:45 pm: Workshop
  • LOCATION: Plymouth Community Center, 14800 - 34th Ave. North, Plymouth MN 55447. Free parking is available on site.
  • COST: $250/person. Includes workshop education, course materials, meals and breaks.
  • DEADLINE: Register by Wednesday, April 1

2025 Fall Workshops

The Winter Maintenance Supervisor Certificate and Winter Maintenance Operator Certificate workshops were presented Sept. 9, 2025 at Jimmy's Event Center in Vadnais Heights. Sixty-eight people attended the supervisor workshop, while 73 attended the operator workshop. View the workshop flyer for additional information.

2025 Spring Workshops

Offered in April 2025 were two communication-focused workshops, Writing to Get Things Done and Verbal Judo. Nearly 100 people participated at the Plymouth Community Center. View the Writing to Get Things Done and Verbal Judo workshop flyers for additional details. 

2024 Fall Workshops

The 2024 fall workshops offered the Winter Maintenance Supervisor Certificate and Winter Maintenance Operator Certificate. More than 100 people participated in these workshops at Rochester's Mayo Civic Center (live site) and virtually via Zoom. View the workshop flyer for more information.

2024 Spring Workshop

New in 2024 is a spring workshop offering by APWA-MN. More than 60 people attended the workshop on April 23, 2024 at the Eagan Community Center and featuring the topic "Protecting Our Water and Environment." View the workshop flyer for a full schedule and details.

2023 Fall Workshop

Over 100 participants attended the 2023 Fall Workshop featuring the Public Fleet Management Certificate. Hosted by the Plymouth Community Center on Sept. 12 and 13, 2023, the workshop featured presenters Gerald Byington (City of Eden Prairie, MN); Kevin Schlangen, CPFP, CAFM, CEM (Dakota County, MN); and Mark Stinson (City of Lee's Summit, MO).

2022 Fall Workshop

Nearly 260 participants over two days joined the chapter for the 2022 Fall Workshop, featuring the Winter Maintenance Operator Certificate. Presenters Wilf Nixon (Professional Snowfighters Association), Nathan Wachtendonk (City of Green Bay, WI) and Bryan Pickworth (City of Farmington Hills, MI) led workshop sessions on materials, equipment and operations, all focused on winter operations and public works.

The workshops were held Sept. 13 and 14 at the Plymouth Community Center, offered apart from the annual Fall Conference for the first time in 2022.
