Leadership Academy

The APWA-MN Leadership Academy provides the practical knowledge, tools, and skills you need as a public works professional to effectively manage people and situations and to meet complex policy and fiscal challenges you face. Designed to boost your effectiveness as a public works manager and grow your leadership expertise, topics covered include personnel management; communication; conflict resolution; technical skills; management; and navigating relationships among federal, state, and local governments.

2026-2027 Program Details

LOCATION: Plymouth Community Center, 14800 – 34th Ave. North, Plymouth, MN 55447

COST: $3,500/student. Pay the full fee upon registration or pay in two installments. Fee includes classroom instruction, course materials, meals, and breaks.

SCHEDULE: Classes will meet one Thursday (2:00pm – 8:00pm) AND one Friday (8:00am – 3:30pm) as follows::

  • Thurs. Sept. 10 and Fri. Sept. 11
  • Thurs. Oct. 8 and Fri. Oct. 9
  • Thurs. Nov. 12 and Fri. Nov. 13
  • Thurs. Jan. 7 and Fri. Jan. 8
  • Thurs. Feb. 11 and Fri. Feb. 12
  • Thurs. March 18 and Fri. March 19
  • Thurs. April 8 and Fri. April 9
  • Thurs. May 13 (Graduation at Grand View Lodge) 

COURSE SIZE: The Leadership Academy is limited to 20 participants. A maximum of three individuals from the same organization may register.

REGISTRATION WINDOW: Registration opens mid-May 2026 and will remain open until full.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Register by Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026.

CEUs/PDHs: Participants will receive 8.0 CEUs / 80 PDHs.

LODGING STIPEND: A lodging stipend for a participant from greater Minnesota is available to assist with attendance cost. Check the box on the registration page to indicate interest.
