Scholarships

The APWA-MN Chapter awards academic scholarships to college and technical college/school students that:

1. Financially assist students in civil engineering, public works administration, construction management, geographic information systems, or other closely related curricula.
2. Financially assist students in civil engineering technology programs, drafting, design, inspections, surveying, or other closely related curricula.
3. Increase the interest in the public works profession by publicizing the APWA-MN Chapter and the scholarship program.

 

Applications for the 2025-2026 APWA-MN Scholarships are due May 30, 2025, by 4:30 p.m.

Scholarship amounts:

1. College Scholarships: One scholarship at $5,000 and five scholarships at $3,000 each
2. Technical School Scholarships: One scholarship at $5,000 and two scholarships at $2,500 each

 

Criteria for Applicants:

1. Student must be a Minnesota resident or an APWA-MN Student Chapter member (not necessarily attending a Minnesota university/school).
2. College Scholarship Applicants: Applicant must be entering their third (junior) year or higher and poursuing a public works-related degree: civil engineering, public works administration, construction management, or other closely related curriculum.
3. Technical School Scholarship Applicants: Applicant must be a technical college student entering their second year or higher and enrolled in a public works-related degree program: civil engineering, drafting, design, inspections, surveying, GIS, forestry, natural resources, horticulture, water certificate/utility operators, biological science, or fleet management.
4. Consideration will be given to financial need, academic achievement, character, participation in professional organizations, and previous work experience in the area of public works.

The Minnesota Street Superintendents Association (MSSA) offers scholarships that can be used to attend two APWA-MN education and training offerings:

• Leadership Academy
• Public Works Certificate Program
