About the Robbinsdale WTP:

The City of Robbinsdale recently commissioned a new Centralized Water Treatment Plant, complete with lime softening.

This 3.6 MGD plant is part of a suite of significant water supply infrastructure projects that have transformed the city’s water supply system and will serve the community well into the future. The other projects include a new 750,000 gallon water tower and the construction of two new drinking water wells.

The new facility consolidates water production operations and replaces the three old iron-manganese plants that were originally built in the 1960s.

Municipal softening with lime has reduced the drinking water hardness in the city from 24 grains (410mg/L) to about 5.5 grains (95 mg/L) and is contributing to reducing the chloride loading to the regional sanitary sewer waste stream previously generated by individual home softeners.

The architecturally-designed building combines a lot into a small footprint, blends well into the surrounding residential neighborhood and incorporates numerous environmentally friendly features, including:

  • Translucent paneling to maximize natural light into internal work spaces
  • Green Roof over the administrative part of the building
  • Raingardens, pollinator garden and large infiltration basin
  • Capacity to handle rooftop solar panels
