By Jake Guzik, APWA-MN Membership & Special Events Committee
The Membership and Special Events Committee has had a successful year to date.
We continue to see increased involvement and attendance at all of our APWA-MN supported events. The APWA-UMN Student Chapter at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities continues to lead the nation in membership and they are still growing. We expect to have continued success with future technical tours and special events as we sneak up on the APWA-MN Fall Conference later this year.
Once the snow melted and baseball weather was upon us, the Student Chapter helped organize a technical tour of the now-open Target Field Station -- a multimodal transportation hub to serve the existing and future light rail system -- followed by a Twins game. The students were excited to mingle with current public works professionals and get an idea of what lies ahead in their careers.
Of course, the summer would not be complete if not for the highly-anticipated APWA-MN Golf Outing. The event brought 168 golfers to Bunker Hills Golf Course, not including the many supportive sponsors that made this event a success.
We hope to build on our success of these and other events to come.
We are excited to see what the future brings with a growing membership and continued support of the APWA-MN Chapter. Be sure to watch for the bowling event taking place November 20, as well as the APWA-UMN Student Chapter hosted Social Networking event to take place this fall.
We always welcome comments and suggestions for future and past event, as well as ideas for possible technical tours. If you want to showcase an interesting public works project in your city, feel free to let us know.
