Incoming President's Message

It is truly an honor to serve as the 2026 President of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Public Works Association. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by our membership and for the opportunity to lead such a dedicated, professional, and engaged organization.

My involvement with APWA began in 2005, when I volunteered at the APWA Congress held that year in Minneapolis. That experience provided my first exposure to the strength of APWA as a professional organization and, more importantly, to the spirit of service that defines our members. I officially became a member of APWA-MN in 2006 and quickly joined the Awards Committee. From 2008 to 2012, I had the privilege of serving as chair of that committee, an experience that reinforced the value of recognizing excellence and celebrating the impactful work being done across our profession. In 2009, I was fortunate enough to receive one of the first ever chapter stipends to attend the APWA Congress held in Columbus, Ohio.

Over the years, I’ve continued to serve the Minnesota Chapter in several capacities, including on the Awards Committee, the Membership & Special Events Committee, and on the Chapter Executive Committee Board for two separate terms, first representing consultants and later representing public works directors/city engineers. Each role has provided a different perspective on the chapter’s mission and operations, and each has strengthened my appreciation for the commitment and professionalism of our volunteers.

Service and giving back have always been central to my involvement with our chapter. This organization thrives because members are willing to invest their time, share their expertise, and support one another. I firmly believe that to get the most out of any professional organization, one must be willing to engage, volunteer, and serve. Our chapter is fortunate to have outstanding committees and dedicated volunteers whose efforts drive our programs, events, and initiatives. Their contributions are the foundation of our success.
As we look ahead, I am excited to continue advancing our chapter’s goals of promoting public works, supporting workforce development, educating legislators and the public on the critical importance of public works, and expanding opportunities for individuals at all stages of their careers to thrive and grow. I believe these priorities are essential to ensuring a strong and sustainable future for the public works profession in Minnesota.

I look forward to working alongside our board, committees, and members throughout 2026. Together, we will continue to build on the strong legacy the Minnesota Chapter holds within the American Public Works Association and strengthen the vital role public works plays in our communities. Thank you for the opportunity to serve this great organization!
