2025 President's Message

Mitchell Hoeft, Bolton & Menk
2025 APWA-MN President

Happy New Year!

I want to start this welcome message by thanking each and every one of you for the opportunity to lead this great organization into the coming year.  I feel extremely humbled and blessed for the opportunity in front of me. This chapter has meant so much for me both personally and professionally and I can’t state enough how important the connections this organization continues to provide are for my career.

That said, this position would mean nothing without the countless hours and commitment brought forth by our membership.  Whether that comes from one of our superb committee members/chairs or even a volunteer at one of our APWA-MN hosted events, each and every opportunity is critical in supporting and defining the mission of APWA and our local chapter:

Advancing the Quality of Life for All, while supporting those who operate, improve, and maintain public works and infrastructure through advocacy, education, and member engagement.

Seeing all the work and advancements of the chapter in 2024 continues to impress me.  I hope we can capture this enthusiasm and use it to take additional steps in 2025.  Looking forward to the year ahead I hope we can:

  1. Continue to set records for conference attendance with our Spring and Fall Conference offerings.
  2. Continue to provide the very best educational opportunities for our members through our Education & Training Committee offerings.
  3. Continue to provide new volunteer opportunities for our members to get involved.  Whether this be a full-time position on a committee or a one-day attendance at an APWA sanctioned event.  Each one of these opportunities will provide immense value to our mission as well as your professional career.
  4. Lastly, prepare for 2028 PWX in Minneapolis/St. Paul!  You heard it, we were recently selected to host the APWA national convention in 2028!  Hosting an event like this will take commitments from our entire membership to ensure we deliver a national conference Minnesota can be proud of.

To achieve this level of success (and prepare for the future), I want to provide some personal goals that I have for this chapter, where I hope I have your support:

  1. Increase the presence and contributions of our chapter by increasing membership of young professionals, public works professionals, and our service vendors/sponsors.  Our communities operate the best when we are all involved and share the ideas that make our communities so great!
  2. Increase involvement in chapter committees, initiatives, and service project offerings.  There is a role for each and every one of us to get involved.  Doing so will not only be personally rewarding but allows each of us to leave an impact not only for this organization, but our communities as a whole.
  3. Increase our exposure to local colleges and universities.  This will be important to ensure that we continue to provide a direct pipeline to careers in public works.  In order to be successful in the future, it will be important to engage the very best young minds needed to solve today’s challenges in the most impactful way.

Each one of us has a role in getting others involved and supporting and growing these initiatives.  I look forward to a very exciting 2025!  The commitment and enthusiasm of this chapter is second to none.  With your involvement and passion, we can ensure that our chapter remains a shining example of the hard work and commitment of the public works industry as a whole.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at Mitchell.Hoeft@Bolton-Menk if there is anything I can do to open doors or ensure that you get the most of your membership to APWA-MN.

Thank you and best of luck in a successful 2025,

Mitchell Hoeft, PE
