Instructor Needed: Technical Aspects of Public Works Course

The APWA-MN Education & Training Committee is soliciting letters of interest from chapter members to fill an instructor position for Technical Aspects of Public Works, one of five courses offered as part of the chapter’s Public Works Certificate Program. 

Previous instructor Jon Watson, PE, retired from the City of Brooklyn Park, has opted to discontinue teaching as he enjoys retirement.

 

Here are the Details

  • Technical Aspects of Public Works is offered annually as a spring course mid-February through mid-April.
  • In 2025, the course will meet Thursdays Feb. 12 – April 23 from 2-5 pm at the Plymouth Community Center
  • For insight into course topics and the schedule, the spring 2024 course syllabus can be viewed here
  • This is a paid position. An agreement between APWA-MN and the instructor will be executed that includes course specifics and duties and responsibilities of both the instructor and chapter. 
  • The instructor must be a member of APWA-MN or become a member prior to the first class date.
  • Retiring instructor Jon Watson will provide guidance as requested.
  • It is preferred interested parties have senior level manager and/or director experience (i.e., Public Works Director, City/County Engineer, etc.)

Next Steps and Deadline
If interested, submit a Letter of Interest to APWA-MN Chapter Administrator Mary Detloff at admin@apwa-mn.org  by 5:00 pm Tuesday, Sept. 10. Online interviews of finalists will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17.
