Most challenging and/or enjoyable public works project you have been involved with: One of the most enjoyable projects I have ever completed was in Farmington, MN. My family has deep roots in this community—my grandfather served on the Water Board, and my great-great-grandfather ran the town's elevator. Continuing my family's legacy of service, I had the honor of working on the reconditioning of Farmington's water tower in 2020. My previous firm won the bid and successfully executed the project on time and under budget. The water tower, visible from miles away on Pilot Knob Road, proudly displays the City's new logo. It was a privilege to contribute to a community that holds such personal significance for me.

Hobbies/Extra-curricular activities: I enjoy spending time with my wife, my daughter, and my dog. I also enjoy golfing; hiking; fishing; traveling internationally and around the United States; going to country music and classic rock concerts; visiting and sharing small-town, hole-in the-wall restaurants; learning other’s stories and building relationships; attending or watching Notre Dame, Minnesota Twins, Vikings, Minnesota Wild, and Notre Dame games.
At some point in my life, I would most like to: Reflecting on this question, I can't help but think of my grandpa. He was my hero growing up. He served as a city council member for 14 years and mayor for 16 years for the City of Mendota Heights, MN. In my current role at ISG, I find myself attending several council meetings. At these meetings, I try to learn what is important to elected officials, city staff, and residents. I try to understand "The Why" behind their actions and their community vision. When I walk into a council chamber, I often think about what it would be like to be a public servant for a municipality. At some point in my life, I could see myself following in my grandpa’s footsteps and becoming a city official—perhaps even a Mayor.
Is there something about you that we would find surprising? You might be surprised to learn that I once had a brief stint as a rapper! In high school, my friend, who used to sing for Disney, had a recording studio at his house. We recorded a song together where I rapped, and we uploaded it to iTunes. It wasn’t Grammy material per se, BUT we sold the lyrics and made $300!
Words of wisdom to share with the membership: I would give them my grandpa's advice: there is never a job beneath you, and nothing replaces hard work. I would also say that you don’t have to be an engineer to make a difference in the water industry and obstacles only become obstacles if you let them. Embrace your challenges head-on and use them as motivation to help you break down barriers.
