Young Professionals Committee Update

August 11, 2022

Article By Laura Wehr, AE2S

The Young Professionals (YP) group has been staying active with four recent social events that brought out some friendly competition. Our 2022 events kicked off with whirlyball in Maple Grove, then a joint St. Paul Saints baseball game with ASCE YMG, followed by lawn bowling at Brookview in June, and a round of mini golf at Centennial Lakes in July. Each event had great turnout with a mix of new attendees and familiar faces on both the public and the private side. Besides hosting social events, the YP group works to connect YP members with the larger chapter. In support of that goal, the group assisted with the mentoring program at the spring conference this year.

Summer might be winding down but the YPs are not. Look out for more information about a volunteer event in September jointly hosted with the Environment & Sustainability Committee and a fall social event. Our events are always open to both the young and young at heart. We would love to see you at one soon.

The YP committee also supports the APWA student chapters at UMN and St. Thomas. Our student chapter liaisons, Lauren Pierce (UMN liaison)) and Chloe Weber (St. Thomas liaison), work with the student chapter leaders to plan events. We are always looking for the opportunity to expand our student chapters to new schools. If you have connect to Mankato State University or the University of Minnesota-Duluth and would like to help start a student chapter, please contact Sarah Schweiger.
