Work Zone Safety Awareness Week

The week of April 11 was safety awareness week.

The Federal Highway Administration says on average 85% of the deaths in highway work zones crashes are drivers and passengers in cars. The National Work Zone Awareness Week campaign --- which begins at the start of the highway construction season--aims to prevent work zone fatalities by encouraging safe driving through highway work zones and construction sites. 576 people died in work zone crashes in 2010, which equates to one work zone fatality every 15 hours. More information can be found at: https://www.nwzaw.org/.

Now the ask – Help our Minnesota Chapter spread the good word on work zone safety. For your use, the Public Awareness Committee drafted a sample letter (attached) to the editor to raise awareness in your community. We ask each of you to use the sample text and this email to craft a message for your website, local paper, and social media accounts. After publications, let us know about it by emailing Chapter Admin Pat Schutrop at admin@apwa-mn.org. That way we can track the success of this effort and highlight all you superstar chapter members in a subsequent posting!

Thanks in advance for your help.
