Fun at FlannelJax's

Article submitted by Beth Engum, Chapter Past President and member of the Membership & Special Events Committee

A record-breaking 13 APWA-Minnesota Chapter members braved the rush-hour snow to gather at Flannel Jax’s in St. Paul on Thursday, February 25. The mission, as established by the Membership and Special Events Committee, was to enjoy the company of fellow members and learn how to throw an axe (or show off honed axe throwing skills in the case of a few veterans).

Axe throwing, a modern version of darts, has gained popularity across the country over the past several years. Beverages were purchased, pretzels were shared, and the safety talk was given. The group divided into teams, the Plaids vs. the Non-Plaids/Trojans, for several games over the course of two hours. I believe the Plaids came out on top (go figure).

The Membership and Special Events Committee is committed to getting members socializing again in 2022 with in-person networking events; many will be familiar to long-time Minnesota Chapter members and a few will be new. If you have any suggestions for activities and/or venues, please contact axe-throwing authority Justin Messner, who is also the committee co-chair.
