On Tuesday, November 19, the University of St. Thomas’ APWA-MN student chapter held its first event of the 2019-2020 school year, which included two public works professionals from the City of Eden Prairie. The students were able to listen and learn from two seasoned professionals who have worked on the public and the private side of civil engineering. Robert Ellis, Public Works Director, and Carter Schulze, Assistant City Engineer, gave valuable insight into their careers with the City of Eden Prairie. They shared projects they’ve been involved with over the years, highlighting the multiple aspects and disciplines of engineering that go into any public works project.

Students were invited to ask questions, and solicit advice on job and internship searches, all while getting a better understanding of the multiple aspects of a public works project. The event had over 20 students in attendance, which is the new record for any student Civil Engineering club event at St. Thomas. This event showed a continuation of a theme that focuses on fostering a team-oriented student chapter, as well as staying informed on future opportunities.
