President's Message
Happy fall, all!

I am back in the office and happy to report that myself and roughly 80 fellow Chapter members survived PWX in Seattle. What a great conference with fantastic opening sessions! Hopefully, those that attended were able to explore the city a bit either before or after the conference…or maybe between sessions?! What a great city!

While at PWX, we held two Chapter events; an awards celebration hosted at The Triple Door and the Chapter Dinner hosted at Shaker+Spear. A special thanks to our Chapter’s Vice President, Russ Matthys, for organizing both venues. They were fantastic and allowed for time well spent networking and celebrating those that received awards.

During the PWX awards ceremony, the Chapter received its 15th Presidential Award for Chapter Excellence (PACE). Pretty amazing! We also had two Chapter members receive Professional Managers of the Year awards; April Crockett from MnDOT in the category of Transportation and Paul Pasko from SEH, Inc. in the category of Engineering and Technology. Two Project of the Year awards were awarded to Chapter members from WSB for the Downtown Afton Revitalization project in the Small Cities/Rural Communities category, and from SEH for the Three Rivers Nine Mile Creek Trail project in the Transportation category. Finally, Bolton & Menk, Inc. received an Exceptional Performance Award for Journalism for their Children’s Book Series. Amazing work by our Chapter members. Congratulations to everyone!

In the coming days, Chapter members will be receiving a sequence of emails notifying you of our upcoming elections, as well as some proposed bylaw changes. Please be on the lookout for these emails and check with others within your agency to ensure they’ve also received them. We want to ensure all Chapter members have an email address with APWA so that they can vote. We have some great candidates on the ballot this year…best of luck to everyone and thank you in advance for your willingness to serve the Chapter.

Everyone should have also received an email from the U of MN with a link to register for the Fall Workshops and Conference at the Earle Brown Heritage Center. The workshop will be held on November 20th and the conference is the 21st and 22nd. At the conference, we’ll be sharing a bit about the Chapter’s top initiatives designed to bolster the public works profession and funding. Some great sessions are planned for both events, as well as a night of networking at TopGolf in Brooklyn Center on Thursday evening. I look forward to seeing you all there!

Sincerely,

Amy Grothaus
Chapter President
