By Angela Popenhagen, Minnesota Chapter Delegate (term expiring Dec. 31, 2015)
My last APWA Council of Chapter’s meeting as the Minnesota Delegate definitely came with many mixed emotions. This group of professionals, who I now call friends, from around North America gather to share ideas, challenges, and best practices about the public works profession. These great experiences were well worth the time commitment!
The Council of Chapters met August 29 with 60 chapters in attendance out of the 65 total -- a record high for chapters in attendance for a delegate meeting in recent years.
During the meeting, we gathered in committee meetings, full group meetings, and regional meetings. The standing committees within the Council of Chapters focus on strengthening chapters. The committees include:
While these committees are set up through the Council of Chapters, anyone who has an interest or expertise in these subject areas is encouraged to participate in the conversation. If you are interested or have questions, please contact me at apopenhagen@stevensengineers.com or Sharica Ware at sware@apwa.net.
One of the main topics of focus was on advocacy. The Advocacy Committee is looking for additional chapter advocates across the country, and is asking for all chapters to register members to serve as chapter advocates. Click here for more information on how to sign-up.
And finally, the Council of Chapters celebrated its first year in existence. Happy Anniversary, Council of Chapters!
