Members Achieve APWA Certification

August 4, 2015

By Monica Heil, Education & Training Committee

Did you know that APWA provides a Public Infrastructure Inspector Certification (CPII) to promote the quality of infrastructure throughout our communities by advancing the knowledge and practice of construction inspection? Up until a couple of years ago, when I became involved with the chapter’s Underground Utility Construction Inspector School (UUCIS), I had no idea this opportunity existed for our inspectors.

The CPII certification program is intended for individuals who inspect the construction of public infrastructure and facilities to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Individuals must pass an exam in order to become certified and a public infrastructure inspector, and must have five years of construction inspection field experience in order to be eligible to take the exam. Within the State of Minnesota, there are currently nine certified public infrastructure inspectors.

Each year, the chapter’s UUCIS has offered scholarship opportunities to take the CPII exam following completion of the UUCIS program. Following the completion of the 2013-2014 UUCIS session, three individuals earned their CPII certification using scholarships offered through UUCIS.
