Welcome from the Conference Co-Chairs

On behalf of your Chapter Conference Committee, we are proud to present the program for the 2017 Fall Conference! Please take a few moments to investigate all the offerings we have, and consider that the educational opportunities are only a small part of what our Fall Conference brings together.

Our keynote this year is Craig Zablocki, who has presented on leadership to Target, Disney, Chase, United Airlines, and others. His lighthearted yet laser-focused approach to the topic of “Radical Leadership” is award winning and will resonate well with our public works community. For more info, please visit his website at craigzablocki.com. If you need a video break, YouTube has a number of interesting clips of his work and style.

Other general sessions include Ethics, Construction Work Zone Management, Bird-Friendly Communities, and Water Supply. Variety is the spice of life, as the saying goes. But if you want to focus your education a bit, we have concurrent sessions you can tailor to your desires, with tracks on protecting trees from harmful species (including humans), emergency planning and response, drinking water management, and technology (drones, autonomous buses, and 3D printing!). There is even a follow-up session with our keynote, in case you didn’t get enough of his knowledge earlier in the day!

We will also celebrate our accomplishments over the year during the Scholarship Presentation and Awards Ceremony, swear in our new officers, get updates from State Agencies and APWA committees, and have special events for New Members, Young Professionals, Leadership Academy Alumni, and Past Presidents. And of course, we have the carnival/vendor networking event on Thursday evening that brings together a large portion of the chapter in a fun and social way, all while capturing the spirit of public service and the upcoming holiday season to support a worthy cause.

We hope to see you at our annual chapter gathering and to have you be a part of our two-day celebration of all things public works. We know you will come out the other side a little smarter, more strongly connected, and with a renewed appreciation for all the things you (and we) do for our communities and our profession. We will see you there!

Carnival and Vendor Reception—Thursday, November 16

For the 2017 APWA MN Fall Conference, we are excited to be holding an on-site reception and Carnival from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. in Carriage Hall A. Food and a cash bar will be provided throughout the event. The intent of the carnival is to provide a fun on-site event for Thursday night that allows our sponsors to have extended interaction with members. The carnival will also raise money for a charity similar to the bowling event in previous years for Success Beyond the Classroom. Participants who donate will receive a bingo card that can be used to play “minute to win it”-type carnival games at the vendor/sponsor booths. A door prize drawing will be held at 6:15 p.m.

Guidebook Mobile App
We encourage you to download the mobile app to enhance your experience at the conference. We will send instructions to registered participants before the conference. Attendees will be able to plan their days with a personalized schedule and browse concurrent sessions, presenter biographies, exhibitors, and maps, and participate in the conference backchannel by posting on social media (Twitter and Facebook) before and during the conference. The app is compatible with iOS and Android devices. Windows Phone 7 and Blackberry users can access the same information via the mobile site.
