Innovative Engineers Student Organization Receives International Recognition

The University of Minnesota College of Science and Engineering student organization, Innovative Engineers, was established to provide students with opportunities to apply engineering skills taught at the University in a way that will address the current environmental and energy problems globally. 

The organization focuses on extending the reach of renewable energy to the developing world by providing communities with the technology and know-how necessary to create and maintain a sustainable energy infrastructure using locally-available materials. 

Innovative Engineers has received international recognition for their wind energy project in Nicaragua. The group’s work is included in Sustainia100, a guide to 100 of the top global solutions in sustainability, unveiledat the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 

Alex Miller, APWA-MN Student Chapter member, serves on the Board of Innovative Engineers.
