What you do every day can inspire a child...

March 16, 2018

Some of you may recall a short introduction to Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) during our Fall Conference last November. Since then, members of our Diversity Committee met one on one with BBBS representatives in search of synergies and partnerships that might serve both organizations. What we learned is that BBBS seeks out opportunities to introduce kids in their program to a variety of work and career experiences. Whether they be facility tours, career presentations, or other events, BBBS mentors bring their kids to these events to stimulate their career interests and show them what is possible in the world of work. They have done tours in medical, advertising, and even took a tour through the MCES treatment facility in St. Paul!

So, is your community or organization already planning any department or facility tours? Are you planning any interesting project open houses? How about any community education presentations? Any of these types of events that you are already planning and are open to the public would be great opportunities for Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors and their kids to jump right into. They would attend just like any other member of the public, and if you would like, you could give special recognition to their attendance or even give them your own customized "VIP treatment"! In any case, the real opportunity for them and for us is to raise awareness of the important work that we do every day and to hopefully foster and inspire the next generation of Public Works professionals.

If you have interest in advertising an upcoming event or customized opportunity to BBBS participants, please contact Marcus Thomas (marcusth@bolton-menk.com), who can serve as a liaison for you.
