International Touring Group Visits Following PWX 2016

April 28, 2016

By Richard McCoy, City of Robbinsdale

As has become customary, there will a number of overseas touring groups in town to participate in PWX 2016, formerly known as the National APWA Congress. Some of these groups will arrive a couple of days before the event and/or stay a couple of days after the event to visit with local agencies and learn about how we are doing things.

As co-chair of the International Subcommittee of the PWX Organizing Committee, I am seeking assistance from Minnesota members and agencies to accommodate these visits.

At the forefront of these groups are the touring groups from Australia. The Victorian Group is the most progressed in terms of organization and is already starting to seek out possible visits for the Thursday and Friday after PWX (September 1 and 2). This group will consist of four engineers from local government agencies in and around the Melbourne area.

The primary topics of interest that the Victorian group wishes to explore while here in the Twin Cities are:

  • Best practice in engineering maintenance.
  • Recycled materials in road construction.
  • Complete street.
  • Process improvements.
  • Prioritization of capital works.

If you or your agency is engaged in some of these topics, you reckon you are doing them pretty well and you would be willing to host a visit from a group of “fair-dinkum blokes and sheilas from down under,” please email at rmccoy@ci.robbinsdale.mn.us

As and when I hear from other groups, I will ask for further assistance in accommodating their needs as well.
