Get to Know the New APWA-MN Board Members

Members recognized its newly elected APWA-MN Board during the 2019 Fall Conference. Learn a little more about the new members, their involvement in the chapter, and other professional and personal details.

Nick Egger - Secretary/Treasurer

Employed by: City of Hastings
Past employment: City of White Bear Lake (high school and college intern)
Years active in APWA-MN: 14 years
Activities in APWA-MN (past and current): Membership & Events Committee member since 2011, became a co-chair in 2018; former Director-DPW/City Engineer on the Executive Committee 2018-2019; volunteers at Feed My Starving Children meal-packing events; coordinator of multiple technical tours; and Planning Team member for the Annual Summer Golf Classic
Other professional accomplishments/awards/recognitions, etc.: City Engineers' Association of MN Project of the Year Award - 2009; APWA Leadership Academy graduate - 2010; Co-chaired committee that worked to create the APWA-UMN Student Chapter in 2011/12; MN Chapter nominee for APWA Young Leader Award in 2013; APWA-MN Chapter Project of the Year Honorable Mention Awards in 2010 and 2017; APWA Small Cities Project of the Year (structures) Award - Riverfront Renaissance in 2018; past presenter at the Underground Utilities Construction Inspector School; presenter at APWA Congress and Exposition in 2015
Family: Married to Ali (15 years) and have two children - son, Leighton (11) and daughter, Ryleigh (8). Hometown: White Bear Lake. Currently residing in Woodbury (since 2011)
Hobbies/Extra-curricular activities: I enjoy photography, especially taking aerial shots with my drone, and I'll be taking the commercial pilots' certification test in the near future. I also like to play hockey and golf, take bike rides, travel - especially visiting National Parks, and I am still hoping to resume a career in recreational softball or baseball someday.
Is there something about you that we would find surprising? (e.g., are you a pilot, do you volunteer as a clown, are you a master gardener?): I enjoy bluegrass music and am attempting to learn (very slowly) how to play the banjo

Georgina (Nina) Stanley - Director-Consultant

Employed by: SRF Consulting Group, Inc. for 18 years
Years active in APWA-MN Chapter: 9
Activities in APWA-MN (past and current): I currently serve on the Conference Planning Committee. I have served on the Communications Committee and was a volunteer for a committee when MN hosted PWX.
Family: I have been married for 12 years to a fellow SRFer, Chad. We live in Buffalo, MN and have two children, Nolan (12) and Caitlin (7) and a dog named Turbo.
Hobbies/Extra-curricular activities: Outside of work, I like to travel, do Crossfit, cook (when I have time and it is not when everyone is screaming, "I'm hungry"), camp, fish and hike outdoors.
Is there something about you that we would find surprising? Every year when I go fishing with my family, I spend a lot of time reading and not fishing but I always catch the biggest fish and everyone is mad at me! 

Jesse Struve - Director-DPW/City Engineer

Employed by: City of Brooklyn Park
Past employment: Director of Public Works, City of Orono; Utility Engineer, City of Edina; SEH; and WSB

Activities in APWA-MN (past and current): Current member of the Public Awareness Committee; volunteer at numerous STEM fairs, Success Beyond the Classroom events, and Feed My Starving Children

Family: Married for 12 years and have two children
Hobbies/Extra-curricular activities: Between running kids to various sporting events, Jesse enjoys golfing, biking, hiking, swimming, fly fishing, hunting and spending time at the cabin.

Scott Jensen - Director-Outstate

Past employment: City of Claremont, MN as its City Administrator

Activities in APWA-MN (past and current): Outstate Development Committee member, a regular attendee of spring and fall conferences

Family: Married to Kim and they have two children; Rheis (19) and Elleyna (17)
Hobbies/Extra-curricular activities: Jeep owner (modifications), past church president (3 years) and Goodhue County Fair admission and parking coordinator (3 years)
Is there something about you that we would find surprising? Owner of the Barteau House Bed & Breakfast in Zumbrota, MN

Dan Erickson - Director-State/County/Regional Agency

Employed by: Minnesota Department of Transportation - State Aid (28 years)
Years active in APWA-MN: 6
Activities in APWA-MN (past and current): Participant in annual summer golf outing and social functions.
Other professional accomplishments/awards/recognition, etc.: I am currently the Metro District State Aid Engineer. I have spent my career advocating for local agencies and building relationships within the transportation field. Honestly, the best reward that I get is when I can help a local agency, the FHWA, or other state agency accomplish a task/project or overcome a policy or procedure. I thoroughly enjoy navigating through issues and overcoming potential obstacles.  
Family: Married to wife, Sandy (31 years) and three children - Jake, Laryssa, and Kallie
Hobbies/Extra-curricular activities: Outdoors - bike, run, fish, hunt, cabin life, involvement with church
Is there something about you that we would find surprising?  Not really, I'm a pretty open book. Maybe that I have two grandchildren and it is soon going to be 4?

Chris LaBounty - Director-Young Professional

Employed by: City of Plymouth
Past employment: City of Minnetonka and WSB
Years active in APWA-MN: 6
Activities in APWA-MN (past and current): I currently serve as the Co-chair of the Young Professionals Committee, the Chapter's liaison to the national Young Professional Committee, and am on the Conference Planning Committee. I also am a frequent volunteer with the chapter's highway pickup and guest lecture for the Public Works Certificate Program.
Family: I recently got married to my wife, Lauren, who is a third-grade teacher for Wayzata
Hobbies/Extra-curricular activities: I enjoy frequent trips to the lake, camping in the boundary waters, and hiking around the country. When I can't get outside I enjoy cooking and exploring different breweries around the cities. I also enjoy my time volunteering with Families Moving Forward and serving on the board of a local non-profit which supports seniors in Wright and Hennepin counties. 
Is there something about you that we would find surprising?  I am a huge fan of Marquette University basketball and while I was in college, I was on the cover of Sports Illustrated on three different occasions.
