Volunteer Opportunities

Put your expertise to work! Volunteer as a judge with the Future City Competition!

The Minnesota Future City Competition (FCC) is an engineering education program for 6th-8th graders in which students design and build “cities of the future,” first virtually with SimCity software, and then physically by creating a tabletop scale model. Students also research and write an essay on an engineering challenge and give an oral presentation.  The theme of this year’s competition is Powering Our Future! Design is a resilient power grid that can withstand and quickly recover from the impacts of a natural disaster.

Each year, over 100 volunteers in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota evaluate the students’ projects. Please consider volunteering your time as a judge – there are virtual and in-person judging opportunities.

This year’s competition will culminate at our final event on January 19, 2019 at Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount where students will display their city models and give presentations about their cities. Our first-place team will compete at the National Finals in February 2019.
