2018 PWX - Chapter Dinner

From 6 to 10 PM on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, we will gather at Tom’s Town Distilling Company for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Located at 1701 Main Street, Tom’s Town is conveniently located within walking distance of the Kansas Convention Center, conference hotels and the Power & Lights district. We will be gathering in the newly renovated Rickenbacker Room with great views of KC, original wood floors, wood beams and exposed brick walls.

 

Tom’s Town draws its name and inspiration from the country’s most polarizing and corrupt political boss, Tom Pendergast. Pendergast had roots in the liquor business as a saloon keeper and as the founder of a wholesale liquor company. Under Pendergast’s influence, Kansas City flouted Prohibition. Tom’s irreverence for federal statutes in favor of bare-knuckled local business dealings allowed his town to emerge as the “Paris of the Plains.” Money, jazz, and spirits flowed like water, right out in the open. When a newspaperman asked Pendergast how he justified ignoring Prohibition, he shrugged and said, “The people are thirsty.”

TOUR AND TASTING. Recently voted Best Craft Vodka by USA Today, Tom’s Town distills their own vodka, gin and bourbon. While there, guests can take a tour of the distillery. Tours last approximately one hour and include an in-depth look at the distillation process, provide a brief overview of Kansas City during Boss Tom’s rule, and include a tasting of their award-winning spirits. The cost for the tour is $10 and will be collected at the door. Tom’s Town requests a list of people interested in taking the tour before the event, so please let Pat know if you would like to reserve a spot. 

 

TRANSPORTATION. Tom’s Town is located just 6 blocks from the Kansas City Convention Center and main conference hotels. Guests can either walk to Tom’s Town or ride Kansas City’s free street car. With several stops along Main Street, the streetcar stops at 16th and Main, just one block from Tom’s Town.
