The Environmental and Sustainability Committee is once again calling on volunteers for the next edition of our Adopt-a-Highway cleanup event this fall. If any of you have ever driven through Robbinsdale and wondered “Why is Highway 100 so clean and pristine between the 36th Avenue and Bottineau Boulevard interchanges?” Well, it’s because of volunteers from the Minnesota Chapter, like you, who have kept it that way for the past year! The Adopt-a-Highway program is a simple and social way to do our part to ensure our highways are clean and prevent pollution from entering our lakes and rivers.
Join us on Thursday, October 12, at 1:00 p.m. in the Cub Foods parking lot at the intersection of 36th Avenue and Highway 100 to kick-off the event. Event coordinators will review safety precautions with the group, distribute trash bags, and split volunteers into two teams. We will then set out to clean up life’s treasures along each side of Highway 100 between 36th Street and Bottineau Boulevard. Volunteers are encouraged to bring thick gloves and dress appropriately for the weather and terrain, but materials for the event will also be provided. Some seasoned veterans have also been known to bring “Nifty Nabber Grabbers” on their own volition.
Volunteer efforts will also be rewarded. We encourage all volunteers and members to join us after the cleanup event for a social hour at Wicked Wort Brewing Company (4165 W Broadway Ave, Robbinsdale).
Please contact Matt Huggins (matthew.huggins@kimley-horn.com) and Michael Ryan (mike.ryan@hdrinc.com). All volunteers will be contacted prior to the event with additional safety information to review.
